How do I pick things to recommend? Well, if I read something that's new, or something I think others might have missed, and it's really good, I rec it. Sometimes I rec something older if I haven't found anything recently that meets the other criteria. Oh, and I use this page like a bookmark list, so sometimes I rec the stories I read over and over, just to save clicks for myself 'cause I'm selfish that way. What, you were expecting a method to my madness?

NOTE: In the interests of making it easy to find stuff, in many cases I've linked directly to the stories. Unless labeled as "Gen" or otherwise stated, it should be assumed that all of the links on this page will take you to ADULT material, and should not be read by anyone under 18. If I've linked to you and you'd rather I didn't, just say the word.

NEWEST RECS
Many of these were recced previously on my LiveJournal. Some were not.
Recs are in the following fandoms:

Wiseguy | Angel/Buffyverse | Dead Zone | Jeremiah | Ocean's 11 | Rome | Star Trek | Highlander

A View to a Kill by Merricat Kiernan
(Wiseguy/Starsky & Hutch crossover) It's a doozy of a story, the kind that makes you question your sanity and morality when you find yourself riveted to the screen, reading with avid fascination. It's just one of those chemical-reaction crossovers that, by rights, should never work. Like, never in a million years should these characters meet in the same universe, never mind mesh the way they do in this story. And yet, there they are, interacting in a completely convincing, compelling way that will take over your brain, and make you shake your head in disbelief even as you're obsessively clicking to read more. It's a dark, dark story, and it is some kind of genius, and I love it.

Make Me Believe by hafital
(Wiseguy, Roger/Vinnie) This is the Roger story I've always wanted to read. I feel like I've been waiting for it since 1998.

Untouched by chelle
(Wiseguy, Sonny/Vinnie) This is like nothing I've really read in Wiseguy before, and it was creepy and hot and shivery, all at once.

Five Ways NFA Probably Didn’t End by tkp
(Angel, various) Wow. This one sorta blew my mind. Neat structure, cool ideas, very creative. And lots of gut punches -- the kind that make you ask for more.

Outward Bound by Hth
(Angel/Stargate Atlantis crossover, Gunn/Ronon) Er. I really have nothing coherent to say about this. It's like... these two guys exist as some kind of bar by which to measure how hot it's possible for me to find two guys, and then she put them together in the most genius way possible. It's like that.

Room by glossing
(Angel/Nina/Spike) Talk about a threesome that never would have occurred to me. It is ever so much hotter and makes so much more sense than I would have expected, and her Nina kicks ass.

One Last Time by Dualbunny
(Vid rec: Spike/Buffy) I never did fully OD on Spuffy vids, coming late as I did to BtVS, but still, I would not have thought anyone could make a vid that felt as fresh and new and insightful as this one does. This vidder is blowing my mind lately. Shiny!

The Bucket by sisabet
(Vid rec: Angel/Spike) God, if I could write the story that is this vid, I would be the happiest woman alive. She is the queen of everything.

Sympathy for the Devil by Dira Sudis
(Dead Zone, Johnny/Bruce) Apparently, I'm still a sucker for this fandom when a writer can get the characters voices this right, and hit every one of my fanfic kinks at the same time.

I Know You by elynross
(Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Mr. Smith, gen) Well, yes. Of course it happened like this.

The Deal by rusalka
(Ocean's 11, Danny/Rusty) I've read some good O11 fic in the past couple of years, some of it brilliant, but I don't know if I've ever read one that was better than this at making every single line sound just like them to me. Even Tess, Basher, Saul, everybody. This was like watching the deleted scenes, and... yum. This is why I'll never try to write these guys, and will just admire the hell out of those who can.

The First Prayers of Man by Destina Fortunato
(Rome, Vorenus/Pullo) ...because, just... oh, man. All a mess and dying happy now.

Qui Tacit Consentit by Melina
(Rome, Antony/Vorenus) Ah, the soldiering life. So fraught. So manly. So... can we pay her to quit her job and write more of them?

A Thought, Quartered by Salieri
(Rome, Vorenus/Pullo) The characters are so true and so very present in this story. With these three writing Rome, the world is a beautiful place.

Tired by JackHawksmoor
(Star Trek, Kirk/Spock) This is an absolutely fascinating story, unlike anything I've ever read in K/S. I had to read it twice to understand what had happened, and then it left me sitting back from my computer in delighted understanding. It's a tough story, a bitter one, but I love it for its elegance, for the sharp and unforgiving characterization, for the ugliness and the sweetness that lie side by side. Also, for Spock's strength and acceptance, which is surprising and rings true. It's so rare that anyone who loves these characters writes them with such sharp edges without losing their vulnerability and connectedness. It is a bit cryptic, but I sort of love that about it, actually -- everything fits if you pick up each piece and examine them individually, and it's such an unexpected catalyst for a first time story. (I rec it with the caveat that it could have used a copyedit.)

Turn Left for Butterfly Room by Dasha (part four of a series, found here)
(Highlander, Duncan/Methos/Joe) This story follows In the Early Spring, the Paris Sunrise comes Just after Seven. Immortal love is heady stuff for mortals, and vice versa, as Dasha captures beautifully in this quiet, painfully real story. Even if you think this menage can't work, try it -- she may make a believer out of you, as she did of me.

Therapeutic by Rhiannon Shaw (follow-up to Memento (Mori))
(Highlander, gen) Sean Burns pays Duncan an unexpected visit. Wonderfully twisty and thoughtful, and good for the soul.

The Velocity of Longing by shrift
(Highlander, Duncan/Methos) Run, don't walk, to the post-Endgame Fic of Hotness.

After Nick's Flight by keerawa
(Highlander, Amanda/Nick drabble) Man, do I love what this writer is doing with her stuff. I didn't even realize how much I wanted some good gen fic until she started surprising me with these stories that are just... exactly... right.

One for All by Carene
(Highlander, Duncan/Amanda/Fitz/Methos) Hee. All you have to do to know that I loved this is look at the character list and the author name. Utterly charming, and an indecent amount of fun.

Constants by Rhiannon Shaw
(Highlander/Firefly, Amanda, Inara) Somehow, these two shows make for the best, most unexpected crossovers. This one seems to be inescapably, obviously, exactly the way it happened.

Destination Unknown and From the Mangled Journal of Richie Ryan by keerawa
(Highlander, Richie gen fic) The first is just magical. The second made me laugh my ass off, and it made me want to cry. What more can you ask?

Some Simple Act by Carene (remix of Rachael Sabotini's The Simple Answer)
(Highlander, Duncan/Methos) Guh. The missing scene from "Chivalry" I always wanted to read, now with extra hotness. Yes, please.

How the Light Gets In and The Unnameable by amonitrate
(Highlander, Alexa, Methos) Alexa deals with the hand fate has dealt her. Methos grieves for Alexa. Two parts of the Mourning series, and what a gift this writer has for going straight for the heart with a subtle economy of words that's somehow still lovely and lyrical.

Jump Inn by Rachael Sabotini (remix of pat_t's Chat Room)
(Highlander, Duncan/Methos) Imaginative, tender, sexy, and more fun than should be legal.

Storms in the Desert by Kristen Murphy
(Highlander/Firefly crossover, gen) She makes it look easy, and captures all the characters with great subtlety and skill.
